| Jeff Saine came to Virginia in 1982 from Washington
State to persue a graduate degree in Anthropology. It did not take
long to figure out that an academic career was not in the making.
An interim job led to an apprenticeship with a luthier building guitars.
"Guitars showed me what was possible with wood." This eventually
led to full time work as a cabinetmaker. That was 21 years ago. "As
long as I can remember I've been building things out of wood. I used
the same principles to build my shop as when I built a tree house,
and building furniture is not that different from making guitars."
Saine Cabinetry was founded in 2005. |

Carl Tanous moved to Virginia
with his family in 1995 from Colorado. His cabinetmaking career began
when he was 18 working summer jobs between school, first as a "finisher"
and then as a full time cabinetmaker. Of his 24 years in the field
he says "it was a happy accident." |
